The next stop on our Florida photography trip (see here) was Myakka River State Park. We checked out of our hotel on Wednesday morning and made the 1.5 hour drive to the park. We first stopped at the south bridge just after the entrance, and hiked the River Trail (we saw the Red-shouldered Hawk and Pileated Woodpecker). Then we drove to the Birdwalk, which is a short boardwalk over Upper Myakka Lake. We stopped a couple of times along the road (where we saw, for example, the Wood Stork).
We spent the morning at Myakka River. There are a lot more trails at the park, but we wanted to head on to our next destination: Venice Rookery, which will be the topic of my next post.
