The next stop on our trip to southern Utah was Bryce Canyon National Park (my previous post was for Zion NP). Bryce Canyon was amazing. We were overwhelmed by the number and beauty of the thousands of rock formations. Everywhere you turn is another sight to behold!
We spent the night at La Verkin outside of Zion, and made the 2 hour drive to Bryce Canyon in the morning. We parked in the Visitor Center, and took the shuttle to the furthest point, which is called Bryce Point. We then hiked the rim trail all the way, past Inspiration Point and Sunset Point to Sunrise Point. The rim trail goes along the edge of what they call the Amphitheater. We went back to Sunset Point to see the canyon at sunset. We only hiked a little way into the canyon (down Navajo Loop Trail), because we didn’t know the best spot for viewing the sunset, and decided we wanted to be at Sunset Point.
Bryce Canyon is higher elevation than Zion, so it was also colder. In the morning it was about 20 degrees, heating up to about 60 degrees.
The pictures are just a very small sample of what you can see at the canyon. They don’t do it justice – it is really incredible!
We stayed the night at a little town outside of the canyon called Panguitch. We stayed at the Days Inn, which was OK, but not nearly as nice as the Best Western Plus from the previous night. The room and breakfast were fine, but the place was older and in need of some maintenance. We had dinner at a place called Tandoori Taqueria, which was an interesting fusion between Indian and Mexican food – tacos made with naan! We had planned to go back to the canyon the next day, but decided instead to leave in the morning for the 7.5 hour drive home.
