Mary Ann and I went to Mt. Ord and Sycamore Creek on October 15, 2018. Mary Ann took some days off to go ‘somewhere’ for her birthday (October 11). We decided to do a day trip. Mary Ann had never been to Mt. Ord and wanted to go, and I’m always happy to go there. It’s starting to get cold there this time of year (low in the high 30s, high in the low 50s). I checked ebird.org, and there were a lot of birds reported there.
We got to Forest Road 1688 at about 8:30. We hiked up the road for 1.5 miles, which is farther than I usually go. We didn’t see much wildlife, but it’s a very nice hike, and well worth going farther on the road. I don’t know why we didn’t see all the wildlife that was reported on ebird.
Next we drove up the mountain to the trailhead that goes to the top of the mountain. We hiked up to the top, which is a pretty easy hike, but its a steady climb. We hiked 1.7 miles round trip (by my GPS app on the phone). We didn’t go to the the top of the watch tower (like Dave and I did) – there was a lock on the stairs going to the top.
Our next stop was Sycamore Creek. It is across Highway 87 from the Mt. Ord turnoff. It is a beautiful spot. The creek was flowing this time.
