Mary Ann and I went to Veterans Oasis Park (VOP) on July 4th.
There was nothing remarkable at VOP, and I wasn’t sure I was going to do a post on our trip, but the photos were there and I finally got around to them. VOP is similar to the Gilbert Water Ranch, with a bunch of large ponds used to recharge the water table. It was hot on July 4th this year, and we went too late (early mornings are cooler), so we didn’t stay long (about 2 hours).
I got a few photos of some common birds, dragonflies, and Arizona wildflowers. Some of the ponds were too overgrown to get to where the birds were. That was the case with the Eared Grebe. It’s the first time I’ve seen one, but wasn’t able to get close enough for a good photo.
VOP is a nice place. I need to be more prepared next time I go, with a plan of where to walk (i.e. get a map of the place).
