Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, Nov 13, 2017

I went to the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch (RPWR) on Monday, November 13. There have been reports of some migrating warblers (e.g. Chestnut-sided Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Northern Parula), and an American Golden Plover.

I arrived a little before 8, and stayed until about 11:30. The only migrating warbler I saw was the Chestnut-sided Warbler.

I spent some time photographing the Snowy Egrets and Great Egrets. These are very common at Water Ranch, but still make good subjects. And this time I captured both of them catching fish. There was a group of about 6 photographers sitting by pond 5. I think they are mostly retired, and are regulars at Water Ranch. I stayed there for 45 minutes or so, and while there, the egrets put on a little show. The Snowys were chasing each other around, and then one caught a fish. Then a Great Egret flew in, landed close by, and caught a fish. The Great Egret spent a lot of time swallowing the fish, so I had a ton of pictures to wade through.
