I haven’t been to the RPWR for a while. I saw reports from there of the Black-and-white Warbler, and an American Redstart, so I thought it would be a good time to go.
It was a nice day for walking in the preserve (sunny and cold). Unfortunately, I didn’t see the B&W or the Redstart, and mostly saw the ‘regulars’. I saw a Loggerhead Shrike. The Loggerhead will often catch its prey, and then impale it on a thorn in a tree to eat it. I saw this once years ago with a shrike that caught a grasshopper. I’ve been wanting to get a photograph of this behavior, but still haven’t been able to. I did include a photograph of the shrike.
