Mary Ann and I made another visit to Tres Rios. This post has a few pictures.
We went in the morning on Saturday Feb 1. We arrived at about 9:30 in the morning and spent a few hours. It was cold and windy that day. We had a nice hike, but the birding was a little sparse. I got a few pictures, but nothing new. I was disappointed we didn’t see more raptors. There have been quite a few reports of an American Redstart there, but we didn’t see it. I’m finally getting around to posting this on 3/1/2014, and the American Redstart is still being seen. On the hike out we saw some men who had driven a car down by the river and were shooting firearms and playing loud music. This is definitely illegal – where is the park ranger when you need him? I thought about taking some pictures to report them, but they looked a little scary and I didn’t want to get shot!
One memorable event from this trip is that I lost my glasses. I had them in my fanny pack and was bushwhacking through some bushes, and I suspect they fell out then. I decided to replace them cheaply at Costco. I found out Costco has glasses just as good (in my opinion) at about 1/5 what I paid for the original ones.
Here are the pictures:
